Original Song List
Funhouse is highly energetic originals band based out of Norfolk, Virginia that started off as a cover band towards the end of 2011. Ronnie McDaries, former Kidpool, Monument and Scarz Within guitarist / vocalist, put together Funhouse along with Dave Buckley, former Afraid So bassist and found drummer, Sean Goodwin. Together they played as a 3 piece in various local clubs, playing songs they liked over the years, which also were songs that are very popular among other local bands, like "867-5309 / Jenny" by Tommy Tutone, "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol and "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry. In early 2012, Ronnie met up with long time friends, Steven Parker, former Daddy Devious and Element (who changed their name to Elementjams) lead vocalist and harmonica player, who joined the band, taking over the lead vocals spot and Dale Brown, former Kidpool, Monument and current Signs of Life drummer / vocalist, that also joined the band. Now, coming out as a 4 piece gave Funhouse a well rounded sound which opened the door for harmonica / guitar solo trade offs, which the band took full advantage of with the songs they chose to play, but made it their own, like with the song "Tush" by ZZ Top. The band kept the same song list, but made modifications to allow more harmonica in the songs.
In September 2012, Steven departed the band to form the Rock / Punk / Blues / Twang band, The Mighty Buskers, leaving the lead vocal position open. During that time, Ronnie met up with long time friend, Billy Pooler, former Kidpool and current Master and Slave lead vocalist, which joined the band as a fill in while he played in both bands. Billy officially joined the band several months later as Master and Slave disbanded. The band decided to change things up and went in an all Metal format musically by completely dumping every song they were playing and started fresh. This even included a new logo design and website overhaul, changing the graphics, color scheme and layout.
In mid 2012, 80's Metal songs starting mixing in, like "Looks That Kill" by Mötley Crüe and "Rainbow In The Dark" by Dio, which showed diversity in the song list, but also started to separate Funhouse from the rest of the local bands playing the popular club songs. Toward Mid 2012, the band added newer Metal songs to the setlist, like "Down With The Sickness" by Disturbed, "Bodies" by Drowning Pool and "Dragula" by Rob Zombie, fading the club popular songs out. "Voodoo Child" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, remains in the setlist and is almost played at every show as Ronnie's signature piece with a few lengthy guitar solo segments while taking over on lead vocals. The band started recording a demo CD of cover songs then decided to wait to recorded original songs for release later on. Steve introduced his friend, Scott Fielder, to the band and he began work on the new website for Funhouse, as he did for Elementjams. Scott started to create images and videos for the band along with recording videos and taking photos. As time moves on, Scott has perfected his work and continues to create stunning images and videos for the band. Funhouse started to take a shape of their own as they moved into uncharted grounds, both as musicians and friends. Steven came up with the idea of calling the rehearsal / practice studio, The Clown Shack, which produced lots of memorable practices that later was released in videos. No other band had done raw recordings of their own practices for public release before.

They even decided to play original songs they wrote and started putting together setlists for shows, like "Twist of Fate," "Generation X" and "Ball And Chain." November 2012 marked the very first song written as a band entitled, "Crucify," which set the stage for the direction of music the band wanted to play. Songs began to flow after with the title track of the new upcoming CD entitled, "Angel In The Dark." The band continued to play in clubs and various venues while they recorded the new material in The Clown Shack through the rest of 2012 and throughout 2013 in preparation for the CD release. 2013 brought a new song entitled, "All Systems Down," which is a bout the state of our Government is financially and the feel of the song shows how angry the American people are about this development. Funhouse continues to move forward with playing in the local clubs and venues, but this time with other bands while condensing their setlist down to just 1, instead of 3. This way, all focus can be put on the originals with a few well timed covers mixed in from time to time. Fans coming to the show will also get to see several other local talented bands under one roof that same night.

March 2014 brought a new era for the band as they scheduled the date for the album release show for the upcoming CD, "Angel In The Dark," at the NorVA with special quests The Jay Rakes Band, White Trash Circus and As The World Burns for 04/19/2014. With the final preparations being done on the album in the studio, the band looks forward in their musical journey, but with all great journeys comes setbacks. One major setback happened early April, just a couple of weeks away from the big show at the NorVA, when the band parted musical ways with drummer Dale Brown, due to mutual differences. With no drummer and the album not yet complete, the band continued forward with the recording and brought in Jay Rakes to record some guitar parts on the song, "New Generation," for the album. With the time getting closer to the album release show, time was of the essence and Ronnie brought in long time friend, Charlie Rock, who he worked with in the band Scarz Within, to engineer and master the album. Charlie also contributed to the album by doing the underlying guitar riff on the breakdown in the song, "Generation X." With the album completed and everything sent off for production to Disc Makers, the band still needed a drummer. Ronnie contacted Nathan Serrano, a young, powerhouse drummer who is the son of Chris Serrano, who does music promotions and drummer for the local band, Billy Joe Trio, to fill the vacant drummer slot. With Nathan on board, the band began practicing for the NorVA show. Nathan learned the songs in just a few days and became comfortable with the material for the show. The Tuesday before the big NorVA show, the band received the hard copies of their album, Angel In The Dark" from Disc Makers. The dream has come true, the album is complete and the NorVA show was a huge success. With the first album done, the band plans to get back in the studio to start recording their next album and with the album available at iTunes, CDBaby, Rhapsody, Spotify and Amazon, just to name a few, the door is now open to a world wide audience. Come out and see what solid rock 'n' roll amusement is all about! It's something you'll have to experience live!
